Our beginners photography courses take place in three locations: Birtle, in the countryside just to the North of Manchester, in Didsbury and the picturesque village of Lymm in Cheshire and are for people new to photography or who find that they never move away from their camera’s AUTO feature.
The price of courses is £85.00 (including refreshments and for courses in Lymm and Bury we include a sandwich lunch) – you can see a list of dates by clicking the link in the red bar at the top of the page.
You do not need an expensive camera to attend the course but it must have controls/settings which allow you to adjust the shutter speed, the aperture and ISO. If you are not sure, please ask before booking!
By the end of the day you will be able to:
- Understand and use the manual controls of your camera.
- Understand exposure.
- Understand how to compose a photograph that is pleasing to the eye.
- Understand light and how it affects your photographs.
- Understand the basics of colour and white balance.
- Use creative techniques to stand out from the ordinary.
After a welcome over a coffee we will start the day with a briefing. You will be provided with a detailed lesson plan to guide you through the day and help to embed what you are learning.
With the help of the lesson plans and notes for you to keep, we will spend the first half of the morning developing your knowledge of how your camera works and is adjusted. We will pause whenever you want to ask questions. We will get out before lunch, to begin to put this into practice.
Over a sandwich (included in the price in Bury and Lymm, your own packed lunch in Didsbury) you will have the opportunity to re-cap some of the morning’s points and then we will be back out to put the tuition into practice in locations that are a short walk away. The furthest we will walk is about 1km using either pavements or footpaths, so please consider this if you have mobility concerns and get in touch before booking if you would like more detail.
We will be out for approximately three hours before returning to review our work and ask further questions.
We end the course with a quick re-cap on what has been covered.
We will wrap up at about 3.30 to 4pm depending on the group and the weather.
